University of Amsterdam

Founded in 1632, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a public university that has grown into one of the leading universities ranked among the world’s top institutions of higher education. Located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the University hosts over 34000 students, 3000 PhD researchers, 6000 staff and represents over 100 nationalities. The UvA has internationally leading research institutes and centers in the fields of migration and urban studies, affiliated with the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR).

The AISSR consists of 13 program groups with over 300 hundred researchers, covering a wide range of topics such as health, citizenship, stratification, globalization and democratic representation. These program groups cooperate through 8 affiliated centers, including the Center for Urban Studies (CUS) and the Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies (IMES). Since its foundation in 2010, AISSR researchers have been granted prestigious awards and prizes, both nationally and internationally (NWO Spinoza Prize, ERC grants etc.).
